Potassium Permanganate

Hepure’s potassium permanganate is a remediation-grade chemical oxidant delivered as a dry crystalline powder at >97% purity for in situ chemical oxidation, soil blending, and water treatment.

Potassium Permanganate (KMnO4)

Overview

Potassium permanganate is delivered as a dry powder and mixed with water on-site to create solutions of up to 5% concentration for injection or application. For larger projects, Hepure can blend and deliver pre-mixed solutions directly to your site, eliminating on-site mixing and reducing health and safety exposure for field crews. Independent lab testing (Galbraith Laboratories, Inc.) consistently confirms that Hepure’s potassium permanganate is among the purest products available on the market, with arsenic, chromium, mercury, and lead testing below detection limits.

Applications

KMnO4 oxidizes a wide range of organic compounds, including chlorinated solvents such as TCE, PCE, DCE, PAHs, and certain pesticides. It is one of the most versatile chemical oxidants used in environmental remediation and water treatment.

  • In situ chemical oxidation (ISCO) — injected directly into contaminated subsurface
  • Soil blending and direct application
  • Water treatment — oxidizes iron, manganese, and sulfides
  • Golf course irrigation system treatment
  • Zebra mussel and quagga mussel control

KMnO4 vs. Sodium Permanganate

Potassium permanganate dissolves in water to a maximum practical concentration of approximately 5%. For applications requiring higher oxidant concentrations, sodium permanganate (available as a 40% liquid) may be a better fit. Both products deliver the same permanganate ion (MnO4⁻) and have identical oxidation chemistry. KMnO4 is typically less expensive per unit of oxidant and is well-suited for soil blending and lower-concentration applications.

Quality Assurance

The quality of the amendments used in your remediation project matters — what gets put in the ground stays in the ground. Hepure regularly tests all products through independent laboratory analysis to identify trace metals that could be harmful to groundwater chemistry. We place particular emphasis on metals of concern: arsenic, chromium, mercury, and lead — all of which test below detection limits in our product.
