Chlorinated VOCs
Hepure offers multiple proven treatment technologies for chlorinated volatile organic compounds (CVOCs) in soil and groundwater — from abiotic chemical reduction with zero valent iron to in situ chemical oxidation and enhanced bioremediation.
About chlorinated VOC contamination
Chlorinated volatile organic compounds are among the most common groundwater contaminants in the United States. They include solvents like trichloroethene (TCE), tetrachloroethene (PCE), and their degradation products — dichloroethene (DCE) and vinyl chloride.
These compounds are found at former industrial sites, dry cleaning facilities, military installations, and manufacturing plants where chlorinated solvents were used for degreasing, cleaning, and other processes.
Hepure’s ZVI powders are capable of treating chlorinated solvents abiotically, avoiding the production of harmful daughter products (DCE and VC). Additionally, Hepure’s permanganate and other chemical oxidants provide effective in situ chemical oxidation alternatives for CVOC treatment.

Treatment technologies for CVOCs
Hepure offers multiple treatment approaches for chlorinated solvents. The optimal choice depends on your site’s geology, contaminant concentrations, and clean-up goals.
Zero Valent Iron (Ferox ZVI)
ZVI powders treat chlorinated solvents abiotically, avoiding the production of harmful daughter products (DCE and VC). Since entering the market in 2000, Hepure’s Ferox iron powders have documented successful outcomes at more than 150 sites across North America. ZVI provides long-term treatment (3–15 years longevity) and is synergistic with follow-on bioremediation.
Permanganate (ISCO)
Potassium permanganate (KMnO4) and sodium permanganate (NaMnO4) provide effective in situ chemical oxidation of chlorinated solvents. Permanganate is a well-established ISCO technology for treating CVOCs in groundwater.
Other Chemical Oxidants
Hepure’s additional oxidant products provide ISCO treatment options for CVOCs depending on site-specific conditions and treatment objectives.
Enhanced Anaerobic Bioremediation
Hepure provides electron donors and biological amendments to stimulate anaerobic reductive dechlorination of CVOCs. These can be used as standalone treatments or in combination with ZVI for enhanced performance.
