Lead Remediation
Hepure provides zero valent iron and calcium polysulfide products for the immobilization and stabilization of lead contamination in soil and groundwater.
About Lead Contamination
Lead is a heavy metal found at former industrial sites, firing ranges, battery recycling facilities, smelters, and areas affected by historical lead paint or leaded gasoline. Lead contamination is widespread in urban soils and poses significant health risks, particularly to children. Like other metals, lead cannot be destroyed through remediation — it must be immobilized or removed. Hepure’s Ferox ZVI and Remotox calcium polysulfide products stabilize lead in place, reducing its mobility and bioavailability.
Stabilization with ZVI
Zero valent iron reduces and immobilizes lead through a combination of direct chemical reduction, adsorption onto iron oxide surfaces, and co-precipitation as iron oxide/hydroxide forms during ZVI corrosion. Lead is among the inorganic compounds Hepure’s Ferox products are documented to treat.
Calcium Polysulfide
Remotox calcium polysulfide (CaSx) precipitates lead as an insoluble lead sulfide (PbS), a highly stable form that resists remobilization. This approach is widely used for soil remediation at sites with lead contamination, often in combination with soil mixing applications.
