Petroleum Hydrocarbon Remediation
Hepure provides products for the treatment of petroleum hydrocarbon contamination in soil and groundwater, including chemical oxidation and enhanced bioremediation approaches.
Treatment Approaches
Petroleum hydrocarbon contamination from fuel spills, underground storage tanks, and industrial operations can be treated through multiple approaches. Hepure provides chemical oxidants (permanganate, persulfate, hydrogen peroxide) for aggressive treatment, as well as bioremediation products (calcium peroxide, EVO, sodium lactate) for enhanced natural degradation.
Enhanced Bioremediation
Oxygen is typically the most limiting factor in bioremediation of petroleum hydrocarbons. Calcium peroxide provides a slow-release oxygen source, producing about 0.6 pounds of oxygen per pound of CaO2. Hydrogen peroxide provides a more rapid oxygen source, with each part of H2O2 producing one-half part of oxygen.
Chemical Oxidation
KMnO4 and NaMnO4 oxidize petroleum hydrocarbons including BTEX compounds. Activated persulfate and Fenton’s chemistry (H2O2 + ferrous iron) provide alternative oxidation approaches with higher oxidation potentials for more recalcitrant compounds.
