ZVI Remediation

Zero valent iron (ZVI) is a proven technology for in situ remediation of chlorinated solvents, heavy metals, and other groundwater and soil contaminants.

Zero Valent Iron Remediation

About ZVI Remediation

Since entering the environmental remediation market in 2000, Hepure’s Ferox ZVI powders have become the most widely used micron-scale iron powders in the market, with documented successful outcomes at more than 150 sites across North America. In 2022, nearly 1,000 tons of ZVI were provided to over 15 projects within the US and internationally. ZVI powders are inert metallic iron shavings capable of treating chlorinated solvents abiotically, avoiding the production of harmful daughter products (DCE and VC).

Application Methods

With smaller particle sizes and increased sophistication of injection equipment, ZVI powder is commonly injected in source areas and hard-to-reach areas where a typical permeable reactive barrier (PRB) is not feasible. Hepure also offers Ferox Plus, an emulsified zero valent iron (eZVI) solution that combines chemical and biological treatment.

  • Permeable Reactive Barriers (PRBs)
  • Source area injection
  • Soil mixing (ex situ and in situ)
  • Emulsified ZVI (eZVI) injection

Ferox Product Line

Hepure’s reactive iron powder lines are produced from high-quality cast iron feedstock and proprietary catalytic iron powders. The product line is available in several grades and mesh sizes for various applications.

  • Ferox PRB — designed for permeable reactive barriers (>95% iron content, 20/60 mesh)
  • Ferox Flow — fine powder for injection (highest reactivity)
  • Ferox Target — engineered for source area injection
  • Ferox Plus — emulsified ZVI + EVO for dual treatment
